C Spire to host Pro-Am at Champions Tour event next month at Fallen Oak Golf Club in Saucier
Saucier, Miss. (February 23, 2012) – Fred Couples, one of the most popular golfers in the world, has committed to play for the first time in Mississippi in next month’s Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic, tournament officials announced today.
Couples, a former Masters champion and long-time PGA Tour veteran, will play in the Champions Tour event scheduled for March 19-25 at Fallen Oak Golf Club in Saucier. The 52-year-old professional golfer has won six times on the tour for players at least 50 years old. He won four times in 2010, twice last season and finished tied for 11th in the only tour event he played in this season last month.
Couples has15 PGA Tour victories, including the 1992 Masters and has more than $22 million in career earnings. His success and easy-going personality have made him a favorite of golf fans of all ages.
C Spire Wireless is the title sponsor the tournament’s Pro-Am event, which will be held on March 21 and 22 this year and will feature an opportunity to play in a foursome with one of the professional golfers in the tournament.

Last year, the tournament generated $8.4 million in direct economic impact on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, according to a study conducted by the University of Southern Mississippi’s College of Business. The three-day tournament is scheduled to air on the Golf Channel once again this year, exposing the Mississippi Gulf Coast and its attractions to a national audience of golf enthusiasts.
