C Spire Wireless Academic All-Star Presented To Clarkedale, Ark. Student

Clarkedale, Ark. (October 9, 2012) –

Ruth Sorrells, a senior at Marion (AR) High School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.

She was one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for General Scholarship. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. She and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.

Ruth is an exceptional scholar who holds a 4.09 weighted grade point average and scored 30 on the ACT. She balances a rigorous academic schedule with athletics and community service. She has taken concurrent college classes and will graduate with 24 college hours. She was invited to the National Leadership Forum on Medicine.

A talented violinist and flutist, Ruth was chosen to perform with the Arkansas Ambassadors of Music Band and performed in eight European countries. She also has performed at the Cannon Center for Performing Arts with the Suzuki Institute for Violin. She participated in the school band for six years as a flutist, being named to the All-Region Band four consecutive years.

The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its seventh year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators. Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, Le-Moyne Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
