– Mary Ellen Hendrick, a senior at Bolton High School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
Hendrick is one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for her work in the area of Art. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. Hendrick and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Hendrick is a well-rounded student who plans to major in film production in college. She currently ranks in the top 10 percent of her senior class with a weighted 4.2 grade point average. Hendrick is taking a difficult course load filled with honors and advanced classes, demonstrates outstanding leadership and is often looked upon to lead school activities. She has displayed her artwork at the Delta Fair and the West Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition. Hendrick received a Scholastic’s Honorable Mention Award in Printmaking.
Elected by her peers as president of the National Art Honor Society, Hendrick strives to bring art education to the school and the community. As president, she aids members in attaining the highest standards of art scholarship, character and service. In addition, Hendrick is a member of the National Honor Society, National French Honor Society and Beta Club.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators.
Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
