New app promises always on data access to world's largest Wi-Fi network with over 12 million global hotspots

Ridgeland, Miss. (June 18, 2013) - C Spire Wireless, the only U.S. wireless provider that offers consumer and business customers personalized services, announced the launch today of WiFi On, a free app that gives users a fast, easy and automatic connection to the world's largest Wi-Fi network with over 12 million global hotspots.

C Spire is partnering with Devicescape, a San Bruno, California-based Wi-Fi connection services company, to provide the new, always on client-based app, which provides fast, quality public Wi-Fi hotspot access for on the go consumer and business customers who use their smartphones and tablets for entertainment, shopping, news and information wherever they are.

The service allows customers with Android touchscreen smartphones to use fast Wi-Fi Internet connections in their home, at work, in hotels, at sporting events, at their favorite coffee shops and restaurants and while shopping or traveling without worrying about the amount of data they use on their wireless connection.

C Spire has a long history of working hard to provide the most customer value for its suite of voice and data services and the selection of Devicescape's industry-leading Wi-Fi hotspot connection service is the latest example, according to Kevin Hankins, chief operating officer. "With access to fast, reliable Wi-Fi a growing expectation by consumers, WiFi On complements our high-speed nationwide mobile broadband network and allows customers to get all of the data they want when they need it in more places that matter to them," he said.

Hankins said C Spire customers can download the free WiFi On app from the Google Play store on any Android-powered smartphone with the 2.2 (Froyo) or later mobile operating system. The app also will come preloaded on new C Spire Android-powered smartphones, including two that will be arriving soon on the company's 4G LTE network - the Samsung Galaxy S 4 and the HTC One.

The app prompts users to add their own home Wi-Fi networks, automatically connects to public hotspots when available and saves battery power on smartphones and tablets by turning the device's Wi-Fi radio signal off when it isn't available or strong enough to provide a quality experience, he added.

"We're thrilled to be working with C Spire to extend the capacity and reach of their network," said Dave Fraser, CEO of Devicescape. "C Spire has built a reputation as a company with a passionate focus on delivering personalized services and our product will give their customers an enhanced experience as devices intelligently connect to the best available network."
