Region poised to become first with Gigabit Internet access in unincorporated areas as pre-registration launches in many portions of Mississippi’s sixth largest county
Canton, Miss. (August 20, 2015) – Madison County is working to become the first county in Mississippi to bring C Spire’s next-generation, lightning fast Fiber to the Home broadband Internet access and related services to residents in some of its unincorporated areas.
Hundreds of residents who live in 22 subdivisions in unincorporated areas of the state’s sixth largest and highest per capita income county already have signed up since C Spire launched pre-registration for the game-changing suite of services earlier this month.
“We’re excited about partnering with C Spire and about becoming the first county in the state to bring this revolutionary technology to homeowners and families,” said Supervisor Karl Banks, president of the Madison County Board of Supervisors. “The initial enthusiasm has been strong and we plan to sustain the momentum.”
C Spire has grouped the 22 subdivisions into 10 fiberhoods based on housing density and proximity to the company’s extensive fiber optic infrastructure. In addition, the company developed a customized Madison County website – cspire.com/madisoncounty – so homeowners can easily enter their address and verify their fiberhood, sign up by making a refundable $10 deposit and track their progress.
Two of the county’s largest cities - Ridgeland and Madison - as well as the town of Flora already are part of the program, which offers consumers ultra-fast Internet access 100 times faster than the average broadband speeds available elsewhere in the U.S. and related SuperTM HD TV and home phone services.
Some areas of the county are not included in the current pre-registration push, but may be added to the program in the future. Banks urged homeowners in those areas to complete the interest form on the website. “C Spire will periodically gauge the level of interest, enthusiasm and excitement in these areas – so we need residents to send a clear and compelling message that they want 21st century infrastructure in their neighborhoods,” he added.
Suzy Hays, senior vice president of Consumer Markets for C Spire, said the early homeowner response in Madison County has been “encouraging” and the Ridgeland-based diversified telecommunications and technology services company is “pleased” with the progress so far. “Fiber to the Home is a revolutionary technology that promises to help these areas improve the quality of life for everyone,” she said.
C Spire has rolled out ultra-fast Gigabit Internet access and related services in four cities, including Clinton, Ridgeland, Starkville and Quitman, and will expand in three new cities by the end of the year. Hays said the availability of 100 times faster Internet already has made C Spire the fastest Internet service provider in the state as measured by Seattle-based Ookla, which gauges broadband connection speeds worldwide through its Speedtest.net app and website.
The suite of services are competitively priced with additional discounts for C Spire Wireless customers. Online pre-registration remains open in all C Spire Fiber to the Home communities in Mississippi.
