Executive honored this week by Mississippi Top 50 program for spearheading telecom and technology company’s Fiber to the Home Gigabit Internet initiative
Ridgeland, Mississippi (November 11, 2016) - C Spire President and CEO Hu Meena was named this week as one of the most influential leaders in Mississippi for spearheading the company’s next-generation Fiber-to-the-Home Gigabit Internet access initiative.
Meena was honored Wednesday night along with 49 other top leaders in business, government and the media as part of the inaugural Mississippi Top 50 program, which will annually recognize individuals for their influence in the state. The awards are sponsored by Y’all Politics and Supertalk Mississippi and winners are nominated through an open process.
Other winners included Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, Mississippi State University Chancellor Mark Keenum, U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, U.S. District Court Judge Carlton Reeves, U.S. Reps Bennie Thompson and Gregg Harper, Sanderson Farms CEO Joe Sanderson and Entergy Mississippi President and CEO Haley Fisackerly.
“I’m humbled to receive this recognition for our leadership and technology efforts on behalf of Mississippi consumers and businesses,” Meena said, noting that the company has rolled out the ultra-fast Gigabit-speed Internet access and related SuperTM HD TV and home phone services to thousands of consumers in eight Mississippi communities since 2014.
“Fiber to the Home is a revolutionary technology and is part of our commitment to deliver cutting-edge innovation in our state to help improve the quality of life for everyone,” Meena added, noting that C Spire has been named the fastest Internet service provider for the last two years by Seattle-based Ookla, which tracks broadband connection speeds worldwide.
The decision to offer Gigabit speed Internet access and related services to Mississippi consumers is “one of the most game-changing developments to happen here in 20 years,” said Alan Lange, coordinator of the Mississippi Top 50 awards. “Meena’s leadership has been invaluable in putting the Magnolia State on the nation’s technology map.”
C Spire, whose wireless unit operates the nation’s sixth largest mobile communications company, also is investing heavily in technology infrastructure for businesses with a new, $23 million purpose built, Uptime Institute-certified Tier 3 commercial data center that offers a full suite of data and cloud storage and computing services.
