Hinds County town turns another area “green” as part of nation’sfirst and only statewide rollout of 100 times faster Internet access
Clinton, Mississippi (August 20, 2015) –
Homeowner pre-registration exceeded the required threshold in an eighth area of Clinton this week – helping the city expand eligibility for C Spire’s ultra-fast 1 Gbps (Gigabit per second) Fiber to the Home Internet and related Super™ HD TV and home phone services.
Municipal leaders and C Spire officials announced today that Clinton’s Countrywood-Olde Vineyard fiberhood reached its pre-registration target on Tuesday and now joins the Southern Oaks, Hunter’s Ridge-Indian Trails, Cascades, Bruenburg North, Bruenburg South, Lakeridge and Linda Drive-Copper Creek-Pinehaven Road (Eastside) fiberhoods, which qualified for the 100 times faster Internet earlier this year.
The Ridgeland-based telecommunications and technology services company expects to finish engineering and begin construction in the latest Clinton fiberhood by the end of the year with commercial service available in March 2016. Commercial service was activated in the Southern Oaks and Hunter’s Ridge-Indian Trails fiberhoods in June and is expected to be available in the remaining five fiberhoods by the end of the year.
With its latest milestone, Clinton becomes the first Mississippi city to qualify eight areas for the fastest consumer Internet access available in the U.S. today. Jackson is the only other city that has qualified at least seven areas for the game-changing services. Clinton has a total of 22 fiberhoods.
Clinton Mayor Phil Fisher, whose city already has a reputation as one of Mississippi’s leaders in the adoption of education technology, said the latest progress shows that momentum is continuing as more residents learn about the opportunity to invest in the future.
“I’m pleased that we’ve qualified another area of the city for this next-generation service,” Fisher said. “I know we’re going to continue to see more areas qualify as we aggressively share the opportunity with homeowners.”
Fisher said other parts of the city are expected to qualify for the next-generation technology later this year, including the Briars and Lovett-Tinnin Road-Water Oaks fiberhoods. “That’s important because this service needs to be available in every area where residents want it.”
Suzy Hays, senior vice president of Consumer Markets for C Spire, said company officials are pleased with the progress in Clinton and other Mississippi cities. “Fiber to the Home is a game-changing technology that will help these communities become hubs for future investment, growth, jobs and economic development.”
Hays said the availability of 100 times faster Internet already has made C Spire the fastest Internet service provider in the state as measured by Seattle-based Ookla, which gauges broadband connection speeds worldwide through its Speedtest.net app and website. “We’re on a mission to move Mississippi up in rankings for average Internet speeds and consumer access to broadband services.”
With scores of customers signing up for the service, C Spire has rolled out ultra-fast Gigabit Internet access, super HD TV and phone service in four cities, including Clinton, and will expand in three new cities by the end of the year. Madison County was recently added as the first county and the ninth partner in the historic technology initiative.
The suite of services, which includes 100 times faster Gigabit Internet access, super HD TV and home phone, are competitively priced with additional discounts for C Spire Wireless customers. Online pre-registration remains open in Clinton and other Fiber to the Home communities in Mississippi.
