(July 31, 2023) – C Spire, a diversified telecommunications and technology services company has launched Connect and Protect, a new wireless initiative focused on innovative ways to keep families safely connected by offering services that help protect children online. This kid’s phone plan includes nationwide talk, text, and location services with no cellular data.
"At C Spire, we understand parenting is harder in the digital age, and we know the digital world is not always a safe place for our children,” said Brad Carpenter, chief information officer for C Spire. "This is why we are launching the Connect & Protect initiative.”
The Connect & Protect plan removes access to the internet and social media over cellular data and offers free parental control guides to help parents protect their children on Wi-Fi and other networks. Parents can block content including social media, limit screen time, track their child’s location, and more when kids are on Wi-Fi.
This is important because recent studies have linked social media usage to the prevalence of mental health issues such as anxiety and depression in teenagers. Instagram, Discord and Facebook can expose youth to bullying envy, peer pressure and other inappropriate content that may result in negative, mental, and physical outcomes.
